The human heart possesses the capacity for remarkable compassion, self-sacrifice and resiliency, but also incomprehensible brutality. That these contraposing traits so often cohabitate within individuals and societies can seem confounding. Artist Kinson offers, "My struggle with coming to terms with this dilemma profoundly informs my paintings. Using recent events as a catalyst, I engage in a visual, intellectual and emotional dialogue with the viewer, asking that he/she consider our current state, how we got here, and what is next."
Various contrasting aesthetic elements provoke intrigue and introspection in the viewer. Natural perspective is altered. Foreground and background overlap. Multifaceted imagery intersect and coexist. Seemingly arbitrary objects and geometric shapes share space in a manner that creates simultaneous tension and harmony. But nothing is arbitrary - and this becomes increasingly apparent the more time is spent with each work. Initial aesthetic intrigue commonly evolves into intellectual and emotional engagement - creating an atmosphere ripe for re-examination of firmly held biases or perspectives.
By engaging the viewer in a visual dialogue while leaving much to interpretation, the viewer experiences a provocation that cannot be ignored.
