The realist landscapes of painter Nancy Mackenzie are luminous jewels whose intimacy underscores this Native New Englander’s abiding love for her surroundings. Mackenzie’s body of work ranges from luminous, impressionist images of New Hampshire meadows and farmsteads to darker, more brooding images of the state’s scenic waters and countryside. Whatever the subject, Mackenzie maintains her interest in color and light and how they affect each other. “I delight in living near rivers and brooks, love the light of early morning and late day, and wonder at the contrast of color and light,” says the artist.
Mackenzie attains the distinctive look of her works through under painting and through the application of layers of glaze which heighten the contrast of light and dark values. “….My desire is to offer the viewer a feeling and appreciation of that which has seeped into me from living in this wonderful place of beauty and change,” says Mackenzie.
Mackenzie was born and raised in Maine. She received her degree in fine art from University of New Hampshire and has continued to refine her skills by taking classes at art schools in New Hampshire and Arizona. She has exhibited in galleries around New Hampshire.
